At a buck a piece, the price is excellent. I’ve only used a few, but they seem 100% fine.

The bag of 20 came with no branding or labeling, so with various suppliers on amazon, how do you know if you’re getting the same product other reviewers did? That’s my only gripe. (Mine were beige colored. Sold by Ultra Spec Cables.)

I ordered two cards for my two towers to replace ancient 32MB AGP 4X cards. Since the nvidia drivers widely support linux, and I needed an upgrade I chose these cards. With two in stock, I jumped at these. They had two left, and they shipped both (important to have identical hardware for supportability). Very pleased with the performance, drivers installed easily and I was off and running in minutes.

The shipping was fast, and I received the cards quickly. I am totally satisfied with this purchase and the service and would definitely come back to this vendor. Thanks for great service and a great product at a fair price. Five stars in both areas: service and product. I really appreciate the vendor shipping two (the quantity I ordered) since I needed two identical cards.

works as it should

I picked this up for an older system (Compaq Presario 5321sr, circa 2000-01) which is AGP 4X. It is hooked up to a Gateway HD Display, 22″ widescreen (VGA). After installing the card I right clicked on the monitor to select the properties for my native desktop resolution which is 1680 X 1050…BUT it was not listed …so again right click on desktop and select ‘Nvidia Display>analogue display’( I should have done this first) then select ‘screen resolutions and refresh rates’ from the left hand flyout menu. Under ‘ custom resolutions and refresh rates ‘ click on the ‘add’ button and key in the native resolution of your monitor and then the proper refresh rate…make sure you take note of your current refresh rate (before installing new card )..I selected the wrong one and my Gateway monitor gave me the ‘ Out of frequency ‘ error display with nothing I could do…which meant I had to hook up another old monitor I had laying around to set it to the right refresh rate and then hook my Gateway back up. Anyways, got that done…as far as the driver that is on the disc…I thought I was doing the right thing by installing the latest drivers from nVidia…the latest drivers just didn’t work right at all(code 10) and that is probably because this old system couldn’t deal with it…soooo, if your system is as old as mine then stick with the drivers that are on the disc. This system originally had a 16mb video card and maybe 5-6 years ago I had updated it to a 64mb card and now I’m at 256mb card…yes, pathetic in today’s standards but it seems to have beefed up my video viewing pleasure…a bit. What i really need is a new computer but oh well..it is what it is. So anyways, if you have an older system then this is by far the cheapest way to upgrade it a bit. Shipping was super fast and I got it before the expected delivery date.

Nothing beats the feel of a mechanical keyboard

For years I have been using rubber-dome type keyboards. They simply are all that’s available. Then, not that long ago, I met up with a group of people at work that were into the mechanical keyboards. That was it, I had to get one. This was my first.

The technical details section above has a problem. Since this is a “linear” keyboard it has Cherry MX Black switches. Search for “Mechanical Keyboard Guide” on the web and you’ll find a good description of what that means.

I was a little concerned that this might not actually have much of a clicking sound, being linear. It actually does have a satisfying click when the keys are fully depressed. You may not always need to press the key down all the way, but when you do it does make a pleasing noise. This sound is nothing like the MX Blue switches (not nearly as obnoxious).

Construction quality is amazing. It has been a long time since I’ve felt a keyboard as dense or as heavy. The key layout feels a little more compact than my old Key Tronic 104, but even with my big hands it is very easy to operate.

I love the “ninja” style keys. I don’t look at the keyboard much anyway. For those times that I do it is nice that the printing is on the front of each key. I like being able to remove keys in order to clean the keyboard, or even replace keys with special ones. MX switches allow you to do both.

Despite all this I actually prefer the spring weight and tactile feel of MX Brown swithes for general use (typng and gaming) of the “Tactile” keyboards. I may be returning this one in order to go that way. Everyone has their own preference. If you know someone with one of these keyboards to try out, you should jump on the chance.

Best Keyboard Ever.

I was just finishing up building my new gaming pc when I finally decided to take the plunge into the mechanical keyboard world. After a month of researching, I decided to go for this. Let me tell you something.. I was expecting good quality but not as awesome as this.

The keyboard exceeded my expectations and then some. I don’t think I can ever use a rubber dome “gaming” keyboard again. I have fallen in love with the click clacks and the overall feel of this keyboard. Opening the package was very exciting as you can tell from the packaging that this keyboard is gonna be great. Anyways I would recommend this keyboard to everyone as it will completely turn you into the mechanical keyboard world.

You can’t go wrong with a Filco keyboard

I have about 20 different keyboards, but the best overall keyboards considering cost are the Filcos. Just pick the form factor and switch type and you’re good. I chose this particular keyboard, tenkeyless with black switches because I’m a software developer and want something I can slam the keys on without annoying everyone in the office. Love the “linear” feel especially since I don’t always press the keys consistently but they always register. I had been using a Filco w/brown switches and switched to the blacks and almost returned it because of the apparently much higher activation pressure. But…it only took me about a day to get used to the blacks and now instead of pressing keys with a light feel like playing a piano, I can slam away at speed like it’s a tool.

Gets a Standing O

We’re retired and old… which makes ergonomics really important. The wife drives with the seat all the way up. I have it all the way back. Our latest laptop measures 16.35″ (W) x 10.8″ (D) x 1.25″ (H), has a 17.3″ display and comes in at
6¾ lbs. We purchased the 3M LX600MB (at about half retail) from Amazon and have used it daily, sometimes for hours, since the first part of January 2011. It adjusts way easier than either of us and stays put until one of us readjusts it. With the laptop seated, the stand will allow us to rotate it easily side to side on the desk or 360 degrees if there’s a reason to. It is well made and keeps the computer’s display at the appropriate height for everyone who uses it. We have been very satisfied with the purchase and, for the price paid, would not hesitate to make the same purchase again. The LX600MB gets a standing ovation from us (as does this order from Amazon.com).

As an additional note: It’s 2012. We are still using the 3M riser on a daily basis. We’re still pleased.

Good stand; could be better

Purchased this notebook stand because I usse a laptop at work and I was developing pain in my shoulders from looking down at the small laptop screen.

Pros:
1. Adjustible
2. Not too difficult to set up
3. Sturdy feel

Cons:
1. Base sticks out too much getting in the way of the keyboard
2. Meant to be set up for one computer/projector only

This is a good stand that will raise your laptop so that you are looking directly at the screen instead of down at it. It is easily adjustible and can tilt at various angles. However, the first problem with this stand is that the bottom base sticks out too much. As you can see from the pictures of this product, this raiser (like all laptop raisers) has a base that sticks out. The computer is meant to sit flat on top, which means that the screen sits pretty far back. This creates a problem because you need to use an external keyboard and the base gets in the way of the keyboard. The screen is supposed to be about an arms’ length away, but because of the design, the screen is actually farther away than arms’ length. Again, this is something that you’re going to run into with any laptop stand that isn’t mounted and suspended from an arm.

The other problem that I noted is that the assembly of this product requires placing little rubber stickers to the bottom of the computer and to the base of the stand to keep the computer from moving around. That’s a good idea, BUT it means that you’re customizing the stand for one computer/projector only. What if I want to use this with one computer today, but a different computer tomorrow? Or what if I want to use it with my projector next week? The stand comes with a lip to catch the computer in the front, and instead of the rubber stickers, the stand should come with similar lips on the sides. That way, you can easily use this stand with multiple computers.

Perfection. 3M Does it Again

3M made everything I need in a stand for my new 17.3 inch HP.. Secures it perfectly, elevates to any viewing angle for typing or video streaming.. enables left or right movement with its brilliant design. The back “arm” will go up or down but will not move left or right. The two front arms have tiny wheels that easily glide the unit like a protractor (360 degrees). This purchase was an upgrade from my month old, aluminum “Rain Stand” because it simply wasn’t big enough to safely hold a 17 inch laptop. My computer was at risk of tipping over backwards when open. Problem fixed. 100% A+++ You will not regret this purchase no matter what size notebook you have (even 18.4 inch).
Side Note: With free two day shipping selected, Amazon got this purchase in my hands overnight via UPS !!

Best Portable Hard Drive I’ve Found for The Money

Intro:
- I’ve been a laptop computer user for over 20 years. I own a consulting firm with clients ’round the country, so I’m always on the go.
- I own – or have owned – portable hard drives from every major manufacturer. My theory was that if I bought different brands with good recommendations (versus buying all of them from one manufacturer), I would spread my risk.
- So I bought the Buffalo Ministation Stealth 500GB from Amazon to try it out. Its the smallest 500GB portable drive around from a major manufacturer (and just 0.1in thicker than Oyen).
- I’ve owned and operated the drive for 30days to date. All of our computers (laptops and desktops)run Windows XP/32 bit operating systems.

Analysis:
Folks, hands down, this is the best overall portable hard drive I’ve owned to date:
1. This puppy is small, lightweight, and fast for USB 2.0. I’m getting 16-18MB/sec transfers using 5+ year old laptops and desktops (with Intel single core processors), and up to 22MB/sec on my Intel Core Duo Laptop.
2. I’ve left it on for 3 days straight, and found no heat generation above room temperature.
3. Needs only 1 USB2.0 port, and runs off of just 1 USB port on every one of our desktops/laptops I’ve tried it on.
4. Has a great blue light on top to signal its working. Doesn’t have a sleep mode, so there is no delay, after your computer sits for a while, when you go to transfer/access a file.

Three particulars you’all might find of interest:
1. One reviewer here gave the drive 3stars because of the onboard Buffalo file transfer software. It’s advertised to accelerate file transfers vs. Windows Explorer. And it does – but I agree, its not worth using.

I installed the Buffalo “turbo” software on two computers and found “turbo” didn’t work as well as Teracopy (which is freeware and works great to speed up USB2.0 file transfers). The Buffalo “turbo” software did slow down both my desktop and laptop computers and seemed to complicate rapid removal of any flash/hard drive I connected. I’ve eliminated the pre-installed Buffalo software from the drive and my computers. I’d recommend the same to anyone. But I do recommend you find and download Teracopy, its a great program. (see cnet.com to download it for free).

2. I’ve not dropped the Buffalo 500GB drive, so I can’t provide insight on its hardiness to physical abuse. You’ll find details on construction at the Buffalo site. It appears solidly built, but the plastic case doesn’t appear to warrant confidence that it would not break of dropped over a foot or so onto a hard surface.

I presume that being so small, there isn’t as much space to install lots of “shock-absorbing” material. I also presume one has to get some sort of case/carrier/cozy for the Buffalo 500 if you’re going to actively travel with it. In my case, I’m using it to date to store large files I download from my desktop to carry home or use on my laptop, and I’m being careful with it because of my concerns about its hardiness until I get more experience. It might could benefit from a rubber border and thicker plastic case as one finds on the Toshiba Canvio, but then it would be thicker/bigger – the Toshiba was my previous 1st choice for portable hard drives, its now no.2, but I’m comparing it with the Buffalo as I go along, and I’ll report back down the road on hardiness as I collect more info.

3. Based on my experience with the Buffalo 500GB, I’ve already bought the 1TB model. Available on Amazon today for $84, its the best deal going for portable hard drive space/dollar. I’ve found the performance specs for the 1TB model are exactly the same as the 500GB model. BUT, be aware the physical specs for the 1TB model are different – its about a quarter of an inch thicker than the 500GB version (same length x width). Since I found the pre-installed Buffalo software unworthy of use on my 500GB model, I’ve eliminated the same from the 1TB version.

Bought 3, like them all

Bought 2 of these (500gb model) at once (Jan. 2012 update: bought a third 500gb a few weeks after the first 2; also, I have had no issues with any of these drives in about 8 months of intermittent use) as backups on the road for various important data. I primarily bought this specific model because the USB connection (I think is called “mini” usb but am not sure) is the same connector as other devices I carry around so that will simplify my cord clutter a bit.(Some other portable drives out there have different or even proprietary USB connectors). Also all power comes from the USB cord (supplied with the drive, about 14 inches long, thin, easy to pack.) It all seems very well thought out. I’d looked at the similar-size Seagates and the Western Digital drives but there do seem to be a lot of complaints about drive failure and other issues. I don’t need the latest/greatest speed or USB 3.0 so this was a good fit/price for my uses.

One suprise: the formatted drive shows 499.76gb (out of advertised 500gb) available…that’s as close as I’ve ever seen to matching the advertised capacity of a drive! Another surprise is how this tiny little drive (3.0 x 4.5 x 0.5 inches by my measurement, smaller than 2 decks of cards next to each other) runs very cool, it hardly generates ANY heat to the touch.

I am using a MacBook Pro, so merely reformatted these for the Mac using the Mac’s disk utility. I formatted them to be bootable and cloned my MacBook over to one of them (using SuperDuper) and now have a bootable backup in case the laptop drive goes down. Tested that drive as the boot drive, and response is slower when booted from the USB 2.0 connection than the MacBook’s internal drive (no surprise there) but it would get me through in a pinch.

Note the included software is Windoze only but you won’t miss it, just erase it if you’re on a Mac. (The Buffalo drive will however mount the first time you plug into a Mac without doing anything, should you need to use it immediately. You’ll just be wasting a little space keeping the Windoze software on there. Mac instructions are also on the drive as a PDF file if you need them, which of course you probably will not!)

Reliability over time remains to be seen (note update above, no problems in about 8 months of use), if I do see a failure I will update this review, but so far I’m 100% satisfied.

Drive is Good, but encryption software and tech support are lacking

When using the encryption option for this drive there is a setting for “Auto-Authentication” that is supposed to allow the drive to connect to a designated computer without having to log in with a password, but this feature does not work with Windows 7. The Tech support person said they were aware of the problem and were working on it, but the issue is not shown on their web site.

When I tried to remove the encryption using the “Release Authentication” button, I received a message saying “unable to run because the hard drive is in use”, even though it wasn’t in use. I called tech support and they suggested resetting the drive to factory settings, which will remove the encryption but will also remove everything stored on the drive as well. The technician blamed my computer instead of accepting the fact there was a problem with their software.

The drive also came pre-formatted with the FAT32 file system, which I did not notice until after I had stored information on it. To convert it to NTFS, I had to re-format the drive and then restore the data from backup. Converting the drive with the data intact did not work because that process requires a reboot and the drive when encrypted is not visible until after the computer has finished rebooting and the login screen is completed. I could not remove the encryption because the management software thought the drive was in use when it was not.

I am happy with the drive itself, but the encryption management software and the company tech support leave much to be desired. Their web site also was of no help in identifying or resolving any of these issues.

Very little ink in these cartridges

I’m not sure if this is actually factory OEM ink as the cartridges last for just a few pages. I printed about 50 pages with a little bit of color on them and all 3 are now done. How could all colors run out at the same time? If I had known these were garbage I would’ve just bought some 3rd party ones or had mine refilled.

Much longer lasting than the standard cartridges.

I reviewed these once before, but apparently I bought them from a different vendor this time. As long as you are getting XL cartridges, the vendor doesn’t really matter. Shop around for the best price. This vendor sent them to me quickly and they arrived in good condition.

Inkjet cartridges definitely don’t last as long as laser printer cartridges do. But be aware that the ink indicator on your printer will probably recommend cartridge replacement long before you really need it. I have had no problems continuing to print for several months after the “low ink” warning comes on. Eventually the printer just refuses to print when the cartridge is “really” empty.

I used two sets of standard cartridges in the first three months, but the XL cartridges lasted more than 9 months, even after my kids began to discover a variety of craft and art projects that were very color intensive.

I’m not trying to print quality photos or anything like that, but these seem to work quite well for printing color text and graphics, Fritzing diagrams, and photos contained in PDF documents on the cheapest office paper I can find.

Great price!

When you have a printer, inkjet cartridges are just a necessary expense so you always look for the least expensive way to buy. I found Amazon to be my source…had to break down and buy from Walmart one time and they were a third more in price.

These 77 cartridges hold SO much more ink!

I have an Epson R-380 High Definition Printer that use Claria inks. The printer ships with the 78 cartridges and provided excellent results but were short lived. Then I discovered the 77 high capacity cartridges on the Epson website and found that they held a full 60% more ink. Now these cartridges are available on Amazon and I would highly recommend them.

Certainly they are more expensive but you’ll have the luxury of more ink and you’ll end up spending less on inks in the long run. You’ll still find that the yellow and light magenta seem to be used the most. The ability to replace 6 completely separate ink cartridges as you need them is a very nice thing. I have a professional HP 8700 and love the results but all the 7 inks are contained in 3 cartridges and when just one of the inks in the cartridges is empty, you have to replace the whole cartridge with some inks remaining that you must recycle or toss. You never know how much ink you’re throwing away.

Please note that for some reason, the 76 and 77 multi packs don’t include a black cartridge, which must be purchased separately. Amazon only offers the 78 version of the black cartridge but this is a relatively minor issue.

Long time Epson User

I am a long time Epson user and currently have 3 different Epson printers. With this “multi-pak” it is nice not to have to pick one color at a time. I had read reviews that the printer was an ink hog but this ink seems to last a long time and I print alot of color. The colors are vibrant. Definitely recommend.
